N2 - Based on the traditional miniaturized planar Archimedean spiral antenna, a conical conformal Archimedean antenna is discussed. For the planar Archimedean spiral antenna, the spiral lines nearby the feed point is the traditional Archimedean spiral line and the outer curves on the antenna aperture are the zigzag curves, which is in order to miniaturize the antenna. The planar Archimedean spiral antenna is projected onto the surface of a dielectric cone and the miniaturized conical conformal Archimedean spiral antenna is formed. A specific antenna model is simulated and the simulation results reveal that the simulated antenna has still ultra wide band (UWB) performance, but its performances degrade compared to the corresponding planar Archimedean spiral antenna. For the working frequency range from 2GHz to 12GHz, the antenna has steady impedance and the gain is more than 0dBi. But the antenna patterns fluctuate with frequency notably. The discussed antenna has the UWB and conformal characteristics and can be applied in some UWB systems to meet some special requirement.
