title = "Shaking-table model test of China dinosaur pagoda",
abstract = "The China Dinosaurs Pagoda has the height of 47.6m above ground, the tallest non-reinforced stone masonry in China after construction. According to Code for Seismic Design of Building, the height of the building exceeds the stipulated maximum height of 24 m for a non-reinforced masonry building; the aspect ratio of height to width also exceeds the stipulated limit of 2.5 for seismic design intensity 6. A 1/12 scale model of China Dinosaurs Pagoda was tested on shaking-table under the action of three kinds of earthquake waves. The model's dynamic characteristics and responses to the displacement at different earthquake waves have been recorded. According to the model test results and appropriate finite element method numerical simulation, the seismic response of the prototype was deduced and analyzed. Results show that in the elastic region, the analytical results were in good agreement with the test results. The difference between the calculated value and the experimental result of the frequencies is 15.15\% for the first mode. The maximum storey drift angle of the prototype under frequent and rare earthquakes is 1/3125 and 1/500 respectively. This research demonstrates that the prototype can meet the requirements of a seismic design under frequent earthquakes and rare earthquakes. Finally, some suggestions for the engineering design of the structure are put forward.",
