Abstract

As a new kind of glazing system, cable net facade is widely used with many advantages, such as pleasing aesthetics, easy constructability and so on. Moreover, it has the characteristics of weak stiffness, light weight, small damping. As a new structure, we knew little about the seismic response characteristics and seismic design principals of cable net façade. When mode decomposition response spectrum method was used to the seismic response analysis of cable net façade, high modes may have contribution on the seismic response of cable net façade. While no generally accepted method or conclusion exists regarding the necessary number of modes required for such analysis at present, so the proper accepted method and conclusion need to be studied. Since cable net facade consists of the brittle glass panels and the cable without obvious yielding stress, the seismic design principals in code for seismic design of building (2008) may not be applicable, and the new seismic design principals for cable net façade were needed.
