Abstract

Based on the OpenSees platform, the finite element model of nine-storey benchmark steel frame building was setup, and two configuration layouts of buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) in this benchmark steel frame were designed. Based on pushover analysis (POA) and time-history analysis (THA), the rational stiffness ratio of BRBs with steel frame and optimal arrangement of BRBs in steel frames were researched. The mechanical properties of buckling-restrained braced steel frame were researched. The over-strength factor and ductility reduction coefficient of steel frames and buckling-restrained braced steel frame were compared. After installed with BRBs, the overall stability of structures and seismic collapse capacity were improved. Based on incremental dynamics analysis (IDA), the collapse medians of steel frame and buckling-restrained braced frame (BRBF) were compared, the contribution of BRBs for improvement of seismic bearing capacity and global ductility of steel frame were researched, and reasonable arrangement of BRBs in steel frames was analyzed.
