Abstract

Dense TiC-Ni cermets have been prepared by the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis and pseudo heat isostatic pressing. The TiC skeletal structure was enveloped by incontinuous Ni-binder phase. The interfacial bonding between TiC and Ni was found to be of a good quality. The high dislocation density existed near interface and inside Ni-binder phase. Meanwhile, the properties of TN20 prepared under two pressures were studied. It was found that the strength of TN20 getting under high pressure is close to the K138A produced by a traditional technology.
