Abstract
Aim for the utilizing features of road crossing facilities in different cities, we select four cities in different regions, Shanghai, Chongqing, Xining and Harbin, to investigate the utilization of pedestrian crossing facilities. We choose usage rate of crosswalk, pedestrian violation rate of signalized intersection and saturation rate of pedestrian interchange as the evaluation index to describe the utilization of road crossing facilities. According to the comparison of the indexes, we can find that the discrepancies of utilization among these cities are related to geographical distribution, population, economic development, cultural characteristics and road level, but are not related to urban size. This research provides a theoretical reference for urban planners to design pedestrian crossing facilities and make transportation policy for pedestrians.
