Research on the design of model eco-residential area in cold region: Case study on the design of Chunhui residential area in Hegang

Model residential areas in cold region are housing communities that demonstrate a harmony between cold region buildings and their surrounding environment and lead the industry in creating architecture in the region that conserve resources and energy, lighten environment load and bring about a healthy and comfortable housing environment. From this aspect, the residential areas should truly be models of land saving, water-and energy-conservancy as well as comfort and healthy housing. On the basis of such conception, this paper explores methods for designing model residential areas on two major fronts-namely general eco-design of both the site of the areas and single buildings-with the design practice of Chunhui residential area in Hegang, Heilongjiang.
