Abstract

This paper proposes a new equivalent circuit model to characterize the split ring resonator (SRR) structure metamaterial, based on the analysis of the single SRR cell structure and the distribution relationship of the electric charge and electric current in it. Then the telegrapher equations are obtained to develop the complex constitutive relations applying transmission line theory. Simulation results show that predicted change trends of negative permeability are in good agreement with traditional approaches, so that the equivalent circuit model is accurate enough to estimate the resonance frequency. The derived equivalent circuit model is helpful to the analysis and design of SRR metamaterial for better performance.
