Abstract
Simultaneous polarimetric radar transmits a pair of orthogonal signals through a pair of orthogonal polarization channels. The signals transmitted must both have good auto-correlation and cross-correlation characteristics. In this paper, a novel simultaneous polarimetric measurement technique based on positive and negative NLFM (PN-NLFM) signals is proposed. According to the simultaneous polarimetric waveform design criteria proposed in this paper, the PN-LFM, I-OFDM and PN-NLFM signals are compared in performance of range resolution and polarization isolation. The simulation results show that PN-NLFM signals can achieve better range resolution and less mainlobe width than PN-LFM. The polarization isolation level of PN-NLFM signals is about 40 dB. Though polarization isolation is 10 dB less than I-OFDM, PN-NLFM signals perform better for targets which are sensitive to frequency. Thus PN-NLFM signals are a proper waveform for simultaneous polarimetric radar.
