Abstract

In this paper, a novel ultra-wideband reconfigurable salt water antenna working at 5-18 GHz is designed with salt water. Firstly, the benefits of salt water antenna as a special type of water antenna are presented and the calculation method of the the lowest resonance frequency is also proposed. Secondly, the salt water with different conductivity is investigated. The concentration of salt water affects the conductivity, which in turn affects the resonant frequency and partial bandwidth of the salt water antenna. Finally, numerical simulation of this proposed salt water antenna was implemented in FEKO and the operating frequency, partial bandwidth and gain of the antenna are obtained. The simulation results shown that this ultra-wideband reconfigurable salt water antenna shows good performance in aspects such as reconfigurability, transparency and broadband.
