Abstract

According to the symmetrical characteristics of pipeline circumferential Lamb waves (CLamb waves), the propagation characteristics of CLamb waves were studied by finite element simulation and the propagation regularities of CLamb0 and CLamb1 mode were obtained. Based on the research of Lamb acoustic field characteristics, the pipeline model with rectangular flaw was established. The characteristics of CLamb waves extracted on both sides of the defect were simulated. Meanwhile the mode conversion of the CLamb waves because of the impact of the defect was studied. The relationships between the flaw size, depth and the amplitude of the reflection and transmission waves were obtained, which laid a foundation for quantitative test of pipe crack defects. Finally, experiments detecting the aluminum pipeline with different defects were conducted to verify the results of FEM.
