Abstract

Superplastic forming(SPF) capability of magnesium alloy is important in industrial application, but its forming time is too long to be used in mass production. In order to shorten the forming time, quick plastic forming (QPF) technology appeared. In this paper, the QPF behavior for ZK60 magnesium alloy sheet with 1.2 mm thickness was researched. Uniaxial hot tensile tests and 5 minutes' QPF tests were conducted to study the QPF properties of ZK60 alloy. The biggest elongation is obtained at 350°C which is up to 166.3%. The flow stress decreases as the temperature rises. Free gas bulging results show that the bulging height exist peak value of 37mm at 350°C and 0.85MPa which is up to 37.0mm. Furthermore the microstructure revolution law during the QPF was discussed. The larger the thinning rate of parts is, the smaller the grain will be.
