Abstract

U0.77Zr0.23 alloy is one of the most promising metallic fuels for liquid-metal fast breeder reactors (LMFBR). Its quenching samples are analyzed by metalloscope, electron microanalyser, neutron diffractometer to determine the microstructure, the constituent phases and their crystal structure. The martensitic phases with different micromorphology and crystal structure can be obtained by various heat-treatment conditions. The effects of Zr content in α-phase and annealing temperature on hardness of the water-quenched alloy are summarized. The α″ phase, obtained by water-quenched from βPLUγ2 or α+γ2 phase section, are confirmed.
