Abstract

Active electromagnetic (EM) armor is a new kind of active defense system, which can enhance survivability of the armored vehicles through intercepting the invading target. The interception projectile and pedestal are key component of the active EM armor and material characteristic of the projectile and pedestal have great influence on the launching efficiency of the EM launcher. In this paper, working principle of the EM launcher with two pancake coils is introduced. Mathematical model and 3-D finite element model of the EM launcher are established. Influence of the material characteristic of the projectile and pedestal on launching efficiency of the launcher is analyzed. In order to verify the simulation results experimental installation is installed and launching experiment is completed. The results indicate that the simulation result is well-matched with the experimental result.
