Abstract

According to the functional requirements of extraterrestrial body detection drilling tool, a new coring bit with barrier and isolation ring is developed to resolving the low coring rate problem. The failure forms of extraterrestrial regolith which caused by main and vice cutting tips is analysed and the cutting model and lateral failure model are established. Based on the Rankine passive earth pressure theory, the model of extraterrestrial regolith coring barrier is established. Take the lunar soil as an example, the influence of structure parameters of vice cutting tips on coring rate is analysed. The result of test shows that the coring rate would be raised by barrier and isolation ring. The conclusion would provide a theoretical basis for sampling bit design of China's lunar exploration project.
