Abstract

Metallic thermal protection system (MTPS) is a kind of optimal framework for avoiding everburning and overheating of reusable launch vehicle (RLV), and the research of MTPS panel materials is one of the key steps for the development of RLV. The research progress of MTPS panel materials for RLV was overviewed, including Ti-based alloys, Ni-based superalloys, intermetallics, multilayer composites, et al. The research findings on TiAl sheet materials and TiAl-Nb multilayer composites fabricated by electron beam-physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) were mainly introduced, it is considered that the multilayer composites are the most suitable candidate as MTPS panel materials for RLV.
