Research on miniaturized EDM device with differential reciprocating electrode driving method

Abstract

In view of the characteristics of electrical discharge machining (EDM) and ultrasonic motors, an DEM device with differential reciprocating driving method for the electrode, which is based on dual linear stepping ultrasonic motors, is presented. The driving principle of the device is analyzed. Differential reciprocating driving method for the electrode is described. Jump - like movement of the electrode is realized. The dimension of the mechanism is 45 mm×20 mm×40 mm. Machining test verifies that the new device is suitable for small hole EDM drilling.
