Abstract

A novel micro electrical discharge machining (EDM) method is described. The selection principles of micro electrical discharge deposition (EDD) processing parameters are confirmed. With brass, steel and tungsten as electrode, a micro cylinder with 0.19 mm in diameter and 7.35 mm in height is formed in air, and then is removed selectively by only exchanging polarities. Based on above, the continuous deposition strategy of single cylinder is presented, and a HIT character type array is deposited. The experiments show that the gravity has little effect on deposition, and argon is helpful to improve the surface quality of micro cylinders. In the end, the measurements (structure, energy spectrum and hardness) show that the deposited material is compact and hardened, and features are obvious delaminating structure.
