Abstract

In the last thirty years, the pulse-heating technique has been developed greatly for the successful measurements of thermophysical properties at high temperatures. The principle of measuring the total hemispherical emissivity by the method of pulse-heating technique is described. An integral calculation method is introduced to avoid the differential error from the direct calculation method. Preliminary results of total hemispherical emissivity of niobium from approximately 2000 K to the 2700 K are presented and discussed. The error of measurement by calculation is less than 3.5%. The results are compared with literature data obtained in pulse-heating experiments from IMGC and NIST.
