Abstract

Sandwich structure with Kagome truss core, a new type of truss core structure with superior mechanical performance, is brought forward in recent years. The analytic model of 3D-Kagome truss core panels subjected to idealized impulsive loads is established. Truss core with a mass of periodic unit cells is equivalent to a solid plate. The equivalent constitutive model for Kagome core is employed and equivalent strength and stiffness of the core is gained. Finite element method is adopted to simulate the response of the 3D-Kagome truss core panels subjected to idealized impulsive loads. The variations of maximum deflections of the plate with relative density of the core, the thickness of the core and impulsive loads are investigated. The optimum design scheme of the structure for impulse resistance is obtained. Compared with the solid plates of the same weight, 3D-Kagome truss core panels have significant advantages in impulse resistance, energy absorbing and dissipation.
