Abstract

Second order backscatter error is one of the main error sources in high precision interferometric fiber optic gyro(I-FOG). In this paper, the error model of second order backscatter is established. Then, a method of three carrier modulation has been proposed to decrease second order backscatter error. Compared with no-carrier modulation, the error caused by second order backscatter can be significantly reduced. Simulation results performed with three carrier modulation show about 6 times improvement of second order backscatter error compared with no-carrier modulation.
