Abstract

The recent development of the high strain rate superplasticity (HSRS) materials, its deformation mechanism and application technology were reviewed. This type of material includes Al alloy and Al based composite. Recently the investigation on the HSRS of Mg alloy, nanocrystalline material and Ti alloy has begun. The commercial application of HSRS has started, e. g., quick superplastic forming, superplastic forming of several parts in one set of dies. Medium volume, even large volume productions have been realized by quick superplastic forming technology, although mainly for al-based alloy. In the future, laser induced superplastic forming, electric aided superplastic forming technology are to be expected.
