Remanufacturing of low-efficiency induction machines with interior permanent-magnet rotors for energy efficiency improvement

Abstract

Low-efficiency induction machines (IMs) are still dominating the electric drive systems nowadays. This paper presents a methodology of improving the energy efficiency by remanufacturing low-efficiency induction machines with interior permanent-magnet (IPM) rotors so that to achieve super-premium (IE4) efficiency with short payback period. Two remanufactured IPM machines with single and double layer magnets are designed with the help of finite element analysis (FEA) respectively, and experimental results are provided for verification.
