Relationships between soundscape and landscape evaluation at a historical block in the central street in Harbin of China

Abstract

As historical blocks are important tangible cultural heritages in the city, and the inheritance of urban culture is affected by acoustic environment. In this paper, the relationship between soundscape and landscape evaluation of historical blocks is conducted. The Central Street of Harbin in China is selected as an example, and the method of questionnaire survey had been used. The results showed that soundscape pleasantness and richness had positive impacts on landscape satisfaction. The elderly had a higher evaluation of the soundscape and landscape perception. The higher the level education, the higher the requirement of the soundscape and visual satisfaction. The special sound sources of historical blocks, such as European music and shouting, had positive impacts on their soundscape and landscape evaluation. This study can be used for the soundscape construction of historical blocks, providing references for the renovation of historical blocks and improving their integrity.
