Recognition of conifer seedling terminal bud based on color image processing

Abstract

Accurate location of the terminal bud is important for measurement of seedling morphological characteristics in the computer vision system of seedling grading. A method based on color image processing to recognize the terminal bud of conifer seedling is proposed in this paper. The hue image of seedling crown is extracted from the seedling image. According to the color features of seedling, the terminal bud is recognized by fuzzy gradient technique. A fuzzy set is constructed for the terminal bud pixels and a suitable membership function is selected and optimized by genetic algorithm. The results of experiment show that the approach is effective for recognition of terminal bud.
