Rechargeable battery management of transcutaneous energy transmission system

Abstract

A reasonable rechargeable battery management program for implanted electronics in the system of transcutaneous energy transmission is presented in this paper. The management of the battery, implanted in the body, insists two parts: Charge management and battery capacity monitoring and reporting. Bq24010 and bq27000 are selected as the charge management and battery gas gauge IC, which of both are novel intelligent battery management ICs, with small package, satisfying the requirements of volume. Bq24010 charges the battery in conditioning, constant current, constant voltage three phases, and charge is terminated based on minimum current. Bq27000 monitors and reports the battery capacity, and compensates for battery temperature, self-discharge, discharge rate when it measures the available time-to-empty information. Battery capacity is automatically recalibrated, or learned, in the course of a discharge cycle from full to empty. In order to see the battery parameters in vitro, wireless communication module is used to exchange the battery information.
