Abstract

Electrospinning has attracted great interest from researchers as an effective and versatile method for producing nanofibers. This interest stems from the pronounced advantages of the technology in producing nanomaterials, which are characterized by diverse and sophisticated micro/nanostructures, together with their multiple functions. The wide-ranging applicability of electrospinning polymer nanofiber membranes is attributed to their high porosity, excellent flexibility, and adjustable wettability. This review provides an overview of the recent progress in electrospinning polymer nanofiber membranes, including the fundamental principles of electrospinning, techniques for structural manipulation, strategies for membrane modification, and their high-efficiency applications. The review concludes with an emphasis on the current challenges in nanofiber development, potential enhancement for electrospinning techniques, and the promising outlook for the field.
