Abstract

Fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composite materials were currently widely used in military and civilian areas such as aerospace, automotive and shipping engineering. As the low-velocity impact is a common load state in service environment, the knowledge about the impact behavior of composite materials is very much needed. In this article, the main low-velocity impact testing methods of recent literatures were comprehensively reviewed. The effects of environment and material, low-velocity impact characterization and analysis methods were also discussed. Furthermore the future development in the aspect of low-velocity impact testing on composites was prospected.
