Abstract

The aim of this paper is to provide a new Intelligent Approach, which can be used as a decision making tool in a sophisticated problem: the selection of a reaction system for the conversion of cellulose materials to fermentable sugars. The development of this methodology is mainly based on the employment of the Expert Systems and Fuzzy Logic techniques. The proposed approach as far as expert knowledge representation is concerned is based on Expert System techniques (rule-based methodology). Moreover, to handle problems related to knowledge fuzziness effectively, a new methodology using Fuzzy Sets Theory and Fuzzy Logic Techniques is proposed. The resultant Fuzzy Selection Index (FSI) for each reaction system is very useful in design engineers (design options priority list).
