Abstract

The natural response of a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) for bio-hydrogen production using molasses wastewater as substrate was investigated. Emphasis was placed on the rapid start-up of ethanol-type fermentation in biological hydrogen production reactor with OLR and pH. It is found that an initial biomass of 17.71 g/L, temperature of 35°C±1°C, hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 6 h, the reactor could start-up the ethanol-type fermentation with COD organic loading rate (OLR) and pH in 12 days and realize hydrogen production in stable condition.
