Abstract

Measurements of data traffic in real networks show that there is self-similarity in traffic in these networks. The same situation is found in the multi-hop mobile Ad Hoc network. At present, research work related to MANET is limited to qualitative analysis. This paper presents a G/D/1 queuing model to analyze and simulate the queuing performance of a mobile Ad Hoc network. Simulation results show that self-similar traffic leads to deterioration of queuing performance and delay in mobile Ad Hoc networks. This paper proposes a routing algorithm based on a programming model for self-similar traffic in mobile Ad Hoc networks which employs multipath backup routing to reduce delaying and packet loss rates. Simulation results show that the new algorithm can increase the throughput of a network and improve the success ratio of packet delivery and decrease delays.
