Abstract

The volume of a gas container is usually measured using either geometric or gravimetric methods but these have limitations and in particular are not well suited to online measurement. In this work, a Molarity Control-Based Method (MCBM) for volume measurement, which can be used online, is introduced. The relationship between the gas molarity and the pressure was analyzed, to allow the volume measurement equation of the container to be obtained. The volume measurement method discussed in this work and based on the MCBM was verified by measuring the volumes of a series of fixed volume containers, into which were placed different given volume placeholders. The work has shown that this method can be applied to the measurement of the volume of a gas container, and so to obtain accurately the maximum capacity of the container and also to estimate the remaining gas in it, based on the pressure measured.
