Quality analysis of electromagnetic riveting sample

Abstract

The comparison analysis of sample quality in terms of rivet macro deformation and micro joining for electromagnetic riveting and pneumatic riveting was investigated by experimental method. The results show that compared with pneumatic riveting, electromagnetic riveting can be achieved in one pass with uniform deformation in sample rivet shaft, small fluctuation, stable riveting quality , and also not easy to appear distortion and crack in rivet head. Rivet deformation in electromagnetic riveting, is more severe than in pneumatic riveting at the joining position between formed rivet head and aluminium alloy plate. The joining of sample between rivet and aluminium alloy plate is more compact in electromagnetic riveting than in pneumatic riveting at the joining position between rivet shaft and aluminium alloy plate. At the joining point between rivet shaft and composite, the extruding effect of rivet to composite is less in electromagnetic riveting than in pneumatic riveting and lamination and dehiscence were not observed.
