Abstract
Electrochemical synthesis in melts makes it possible to produce coatings and powders of metal-like refractory compounds by controlling the electrolysis conditions. The use of salts and lower temperatures makes this method competitive with the commonly used synthesis methods. Methods of electrochemical synthesis of refractory metal borides and carbides were classified. Coatings of transition-metal carbides and diborides were obtained by high-temperature electrochemical synthesis from melts. The microhardness of the coatings obtained by electrolysis was measured, and their concentrated acid resistance was studied.
