Abstract

The propagation characteristics of electromagnetic wave through a coaxial gridded hollow cathode helium dusty plasma was experimentally investigated. The dust particles in the plasma fell from the top of the chamber and formed a dusty plasma environment. The propagation characteristics of the electromagnetic wave were determined using a vector network analyzer with antennas in 3-5 GHz range. The measured attenuation data were in approximate accordance with the theoretically calculated curve. The experimental results showed that the charged dust particles play a significant role in the attenuation of the EM wave propagation and the dust density greatly influenced this attenuation.
