Abstract

Microwave technology has been widely used in environmental remediation and energy recovery for its high directivity and selective heating. In this paper, the hydrogen production process from pollutant and waste degradation based on microwave is reviewed, mainly including catalytic pyrolysis/biomass pretreatment and hydrogen production by microwave induced plasma. The introduction of microwave provides a unique and effective idea for the optimization of energy consumption and hydrogen production efficiency of hydrogen production process. Based on summarizing the state-of-the-art hydrogen production technologies , this paper analyzes the potential of microwave technology in hydrogen generation and discusses the remaining challenges and application prospects.
