Abstract

TiAl intermetallic compounds were significantly interesting due to their low density, excellent high temperature strength and creep resistance, however, poor hot workability limited the application of traditional TiAl based alloys. Owing to sufficient number of independent slip system, small deformation resistance, apt to plastic forming of disordered β phase at elevated temperature, the novel β-γ TiAl alloys exhibited excellent hot-workability. The progress in research on novel β-γ TiAl alloys was summarized. Alloy design, microstructure, properties especially mechanical properties and applications of novel β-γ TiAl alloys were discussed. Some shortcomings and necessaries of novel β-γ TiAl alloys should be solved.
