Abstract

Aiming at the 3D computer aided design models represented by Triangle meshes, a new method of local feature detection was proposed. Based on 3D model's extended gauss image, the mesh was segmented. The segmented areas which visualized from certain direction were connected by geodesic lines, and then a geodesic connected graph of feature areas was constructed according to the path of these geodesic lines. The geodesic connected graph was a shape representation method for local features on model surfaces. By using the geodesic connected graph as index, 3D CAD models were retrieved based on hash table mechanism. The experiment results proved that the proposed method was effective for CAD models of prismatic parts.
