Abstract

Irregular strontium silicate powders with high purity were synthesized by sol-gel process using TEOS and Sr (NO3)2 as raw materials. The effects of strontium salt types (SrCl2, SrCO3 and Sr (NO3)2), the ratio of water to TEOS and pH value on structure, morphology and purity of strontium silicate powders were investigated by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry-thermogravimetry (DSC-TG). At the same time, the mechanism for synthesis of Sr2SiO4 powder was also studied. The processing parameters of sol-gel process to produce Sr2SiO4 were optimized to be Sr (NO3)2 salt, the n (H2O):n (TEOS):n (EtOH) as 24:1:5, pH value of 3-4 and calcining temperature of 800°C. Contrasted with traditional high-temperature solid-state reaction method, the sol-gel process reduced greatly the calcination temperature and the particle size, and also enhanced the purity of Sr2SiO4 powder.
