Preparation of high water-absorbent resin with cellulose under microwave radiation and its performances

Abstract

Graft copolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) and acrylamide (AM) on cellulose distracted from paper pulp to prepare super-absorbent polymer (SAP) by microwave radiation and its performances were investigated. The results show that it only takes 8 min for the reaction, when the initiator is potassium persulfate/sodium thiosulfate which forms an oxidation-reduction initiator system; N,N-methylene diacrylamide is as cross-linker; neutralization degree is 70%, under the microwave power of 360 W. The experiment of the resistant of ions, the resistant acid-alkali, heat characters and retaining-water capacity of the resin was conducted, and found that the water-absorption radio is 1200 g/g (55°C), water-absorption radio of 0.9% brine is 158 g/g and has powerful retention-water capacity.
