Abstract
Granular Zr-loaded bentonite (GZLB) was prepared with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in an attempt to remove fluoride from aqueous solutions in batch and continuous operations. The fluoride removal performance was investigated as a function of the fluoride concentration, flow rate and regeneration. Batch sorption data were adequately described by Freundlich isotherm model. Fluoride removal as a function of time and uptake capacity related to flow volume were determined by evaluating the breakthrough curves. Data confirmed that GZLB has good defluoridation properties and can be used in practice. Regeneration by Alum can increase its defluoridation capacity. An adsorption capacity of 755 mg/kg was obtained at pH 6.97 and inlet fluoride concentration of 6.34 mg/L.
