Abstract
Bulk amorphous Zr41.2Ti13.8 Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 alloy up to 20 mm in diameter and 90 mm in length was prepared successfully by using graphite crucible in arc melting process. Thermal analysis with DSC and DTA was made to show the effect of heating rate on supercooled liquid region ΔTx, and the relationship between reduced glass transition temperature Tr and glass forming ability of alloys illustrated. Tests of mechanical properties for the bulk amorphous alloys show high tensile strength (1808 MPa), high flexural strength (3700 MPa), high Vickers-hardness (580) and good elasticity (E = 98 GPa). The mechanism governing the excellent properties from the point of view of microstructure is analyzed.
