Preparation and characterizations of Al2O3 xerogels by non-supercritical drying

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Alumina xerogels of integrated structure were prepared through polymerization of molecular units (PMU) and non-supercritical drying of alkogels formed from aluminum iso-propylate (AIP) by hydrolytic condensation. The performances of heat treatment alumina xerogels were investigated by means of SEM, IR, XRD and BET. Alumina xerogels consisted of an amorphous networks with nano-particles and boehmite crystallites which changed to α-Al2O3 heating at 1250°C. The BET results showed that the samples had concentrative porous distribution, the average pore size was 5.02 nm and the specific surface area was 780.57 m2/g.
