Abstract

An organometallic precursor of boron-silicon oxynitride (SiBON) was synthesized by co-ammonolysis of trichloroborazine and chloropolysiloxane. SiBON powders were prepared by pyrolysis of the precursor in a tubular furnace. Scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and elemental analysis were used to study SiBON powders. The SiBON ceramic powders produced were found to be amorphous and in a loose agglomerate state with nano-sized sub-particles.
