Preparation and characterization of acid-treated multi-walled carbon nanotubes/poly(p-phenyiene-2,6-benzoxazoie) composites

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzoxazole) based composites with multi-walled carbon nanotubes were prepared via an in-situ polymerization. The results of FTIR, XPS, AFM and SEM show that the treated MWNTs were very clean and have some polar groups containing oxygen and the treated MWNTs are sufficiently and homogeneously disperse in the PBO matrix. However the untreated MWNTs are entangled in PBO matrix. The result also indicates that both of them are a tight combination due to either physical interaction or chemical interaction between the matrix and treated MWNTs. The composites may be applied in polymer electrolyte membranes fuel cells etc.
