Preliminary design for coordinated control of airbreathing hypersonic vehicle and scramjet engine

Abstract

This paper presents a preliminary design of coordinated control scheme applied to an integrated airbreathing hypersonic vehicle and scramjet engine model. The involved model not only contains the significant couplings between aerodynamics and propulsion system but enables to embody the safety boundaries of scramjet engine. The coordinated control design is inspired by a basic idea that under a precondition of not changing the original independent flight and engine controller structure, utilizing engine safety margin variable to guide parameters of the flight controller and engine controller to fit the wide range of flight conditions and avoid undesirable engine working conditions happening. And coordinated control scheme also means to reveal the inevitable compromise between the flight performance and flight safety. Corresponding simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of coordinated control scheme over traditional control without coordination in maintaining the system stability and tracking velocity commands.
