abstract = "The possibility of replacing a monolithic metallic plate with layered ones to have a safer ballistic protective design has been an active research tipic. However, the effect of replacing monolithic plates with double-layered ones is not fully clear. Aluminum alloy plates of the thickness of 1/5 to 2 times of the projectile diameter were investigated numerically by AUTODYN hydro-code for the case of blunt projectile impact in the present study. Johnson-Cook strength and failure model were used to characterize the target material's behavior under large strain, high strain rate and high temperature. Results obtained from the simulations showed that double-layering make plates of almost all the thickness more resistant than the corresponding monolithic plates. Furthermore, the validation of the simulation is evaluated by several published tests.",
