Abstract

A pulsed Nd:GdNbO4 laser using two-dimensional (2D) platinum diselenide (PtSe2) nanosheet as a saturable absorber (SA) is reported for the first time. The optical characteristics and microstructure of PtSe2 nanosheet were investigated at first. The passively Q-switched 1.06 μm Nd:GdNbO4/PtSe2 laser was carried out under direct pumping. A 426 mW maximum average output power was achieved. The obtained pulse duration, repetition rate, pulse energy and peak power were 300 ns, 210 kHz, 2 μJ and 6.8 W, respectively, when the absorbed pump power of Nd:GdNbO4 crystal was 3.8 W.
