Abstract
A technique is presented from the viewpoint of mechanics to weld aluminum alloy 2024 sheet with low stress, little distortion and no hot crank which the evolution of stress and strain in the weld and its adjacent zones can be controlled by adjusting the welding temperature field. The effectiveness of reducing residual distortion by thermal tensioning and trailing intense cooling is verified by experiments. In these experiments, orthonormality test design is used to guide the experiments aim to find the key factors. Furthermore, the key technological factors and experimental conditions, which influence the welding distortion of aluminum alloy sheet, are achieved by means of linear regression. The trustful regression equation and optimal technological standard are got. In addition, a series of parametric studies are conducted to demonstrate the influence of several key parameters on the effectiveness of the distortion control.
