Abstract

Nowadays, the end-to-end network is widely used to transmit multimedia information over Internet Protocol (IP) network, and TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) is employed to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) when packet loss happened. However, the transmit delay increases by TCP, and it could not be acceptable for real-time data communications. Thereby, this paper provides a kind of packet loss recovery algorithms that combines single parity check and RS coding, in which case coding is done not only to a single data block but also to different blocks. Simulation results show that the provided algorithm can improve the transmission reliability at packet-level, meanwhile the delay can be controlled short enough for real-time network.
